Outfit of the Day- Later, Blue Gator

On Friday, I centered my outfit around a new tee with a burnout alligator print. This was probably a slightly scandalous pick for the office, but my blazer kept anyone from realizing that small fact. I felt it was definitely necessary after the bf and I had a 5 minute argument/discussion about whether it looked like my skin was showing or if it just looked like a tee with a print. What's your take??? I will say that it makes for great ventilation when the sun is beaming.

Outfit of the Day- Black Out

With yesterday's super bright skirt, today I went in a totally opposite direction by wearing all black because there's no need to coordinate or think to hard when you dress in the stereotypical NY uniform. I don't know what possessed me to wear this color palette when the high was 90+ degrees. Luckily, this blouse is a nice sheer piece that kept me from bursting into flames out in the heat, plus it has the cutest little heart buttons. Sometimes the little things are the best.

I had just read a silly story about a woman that robbed a bank and then picked her kids up from school right after. I think she got her to-do list crossed with her things I probably shouldn't do list. That chuckle started my morning off right.

Do you ever get determined to wear something even if the weather is not cooperating?

Black blouse- Alice Temperley for Target
Black ankle pants and tan suede shoes- Zara

Outfit of the Day- Silk Suit

In an attempt to get out of the house earlier in the mornings, I've been trying to figure out what I want to wear the night before. This skirt is way too fun and has been cooped up in my closet for some time and this blazer is part of a suit that hasn't seen the light of day since my days of going on interviews. I added a little black (so I could wear this cute little bag) a little white and off I went. I'm not sure the end result was quite as I had pictured, but experimenting is part of the fun of fashion. In the end, I probably saved 5 minutes in the morning, which still isn't enough time to run to Starbucks, but I'm taking baby steps here people. Next time, 10 minutes is the goal and then hopefully by next year, I'll be beating the boss in to the office (but I'm not holding my breath on that one).  :)

This skirt is not as bright as it appears, don't adjust your monitor!!

Excuse the goofy face above, but I was in the middle of a tap dancing routine.

Do you ever think of an outfit in your head and the "real" version turns out not quite what you pictured?

White tank- James Perse
Pink pleated silk skirt- J Crew (similar, pricier but similar)

Outfit of the Day- Ink Spot

With summer determined to remain strong despite the calendar changing of the seasons, I'm forced to keep my warmer weather items still hanging in my closet. This makes my fashion life difficult when I want to wear blazers, tights and scarves. I'm trying to remain patient and get some use out of things that I love but don't wear too often like this Rachel Rachel Roy dress. I love that it has a million colors and my mother bought it for my birthday so I can't help but smile when I think of her lovely gift. It's perfect to get me through the next few 90 degree days. I'll be the one sweating, cursing out the heat and wishing for fall.

Pink Cardigan- Madewell (similar here)
Yellow ribbon peep-toe shoes- Seychelles
Blue handbag- Forever 21 (available here)

XOXO, OMG You Are the One True Red Beauty

I just finished watching Gossip Girls and I'm still thinking about the dress that Blair was wearing in Paris. Oh, you gorgeous dress you!! Wouldn't it be so wonderful to take a trip to Harry Winston for jewelry before heading to a ball. :)

(credit)

Since my real life does not call for a dress of that caliber, I figured some more practical, yet still fabulous pieces would be a better search for my closet than an Oscar de la Renta slice of heaven.

Outfit of the Day- Swingin' Saturday

I had a day filled with errands, so I wanted to be comfy. That usually means a pair of jeans for me, but I wanted something a little different; that's how I ended up in a denim skirt instead. I put it on wondering since jeans get all of the love, does anyone wear denim skirts anymore and then I saw two girls in a row coming out of a store with denim skirts and smiled that we all were strangers with similar thoughts in mind today.

Here I am goofing around on the metro.

Umm, here is me goofing around showing off my non-existent pole skills.

I took a side trip to the consignment shop today and ended up trying on these:

I love you Topshop, but sequin harem pants are not happening!!!!!
Have you ever tried on something totally unlike you and ended up loving it? What was it?

Notes from the Dressing Room-J Crew Skirts Edition

After indulging ourselves in a sushi buffet, my friend and I walked the mall this weekend and somehow I ended up at J Crew, as usual. I loaded up on a plethora of skirts and had some fun playing dress up.

Is it my imagination or is Mr. Panda there staring down my shirt, lol?

Microspun cowl neck tee, Blush Stone, $39.50
Goldenrod Jacquared mini, Midnight?? (tag has MID for color, only saw in stores), $128

This top is not usually something I gravitate towards, but thought the color would make a nice complement to this fancy skirt. I racked my brain trying to think of a way to make this less dressy and something that could work for any ordinary day (we even solicited advice from a sales associate), my friend was not convinced that you can make this skirt more casual.

The tee is really soft and I like the draping in front. I'm just not sure it is special enough to make a home in my pile o' tees in the closet. The skirt has a fun pattern, wonderful shine and festive attitude about it. The issue I had was what the heck would I wear this with, why is it so short, and is this weird poofing in the front just this skirt or a problem with the others? Also, I'm almost certain it wasn't lined. This skirt was cute, but not a home run, so it stayed at the store.
Double-Serge pencil skirt, Bright Dahlia (call customer service to order), $118

I saw this skirt lying on a table and was instantly drawn to the color. I thought that it looked just like my new vintage wisteria pencil skirt, but a lot brighter; apparently it is brighter because this color is different. I absolutely love this skirt, the fit was great (tried on my normal size), but again too long for me.

The cami had a nice print, but way too much going on down the front and around the collar. There were two layers, one of pleats and one of ruffles and it wasn't the best combination. Another blogger described it as looking like a Venus flytrap and that would be about right. This is a pass, despite the reduced price.

Heathered microrib Jaspe henley, $39.99 (disappeared off the website, was on sale rack)

If I spy tweed anything, chances are I'm trying it on and this was no exception. I was trying to do the whole casual dressy mix that J. Crew likes to display in their catalog, but this wasn't quite right. This skirt, however, was all kinds of right. I love the weight and appearance of this tweed. I think it had a slight sheen to it too. My only gripe is the length (too long, what else). I would gladly add this piece to my wardrobe, but not in this trip since I was only browsing. This will be added to my wishlist.

The top was nothing exciting, but extremely comfortable and soft. If you can find it in the store, it would make an excellent weekend casual piece.

Cord Atlee skirt, Navy, $59.50

I thought to give this skirt on the sale rack a try, especially at the $35 price. It's a cute little cord skirt, but as you can tell it is on the short side, the two front pockets aren't functional, and it was a bit on the snug side.

Sequin pencil skirt, Brown sheen, $138
Stripe pocket tee, Warm taupe, $39.50

Jackie cardigan, Dark rosewood, $49.60
My friend, the lover of all things sequin, insisted that I try this skirt on and I must admit this is a fun and sophisticated item. The length was fine for once, the fit was okay in my normal size albeit a tiny bit snug, it had a lovely shape and the color was a nice brown with a hint of purple. However, the numerous complaints in the blogoshpere of loose threads and frayed hemming on the sequin skirts seem to be the case with this stores selection. They even separated the skirts with a piece of tissue paper, that spells trouble to me. I wouldn't want to spend $100+ dollars on something that is already starting out with issues.

This was a simple, soft cardigan that I tried on with the skirt and thought the colors looked really nice together. It was a deep burgundy and had me thinking that I'm in need of my millionth cardigan. :)

Now I have the dilemma of whether to keep my vintage wisteria or get the bright dahlia pencil skirt, be happy with the one I have because it is a beautiful color too or be crazy and have two skirts similar in color (yet still different!). What should I do? Perhaps stop buying so many skirts?

Have you found any goodies in the store lately?

Outfit of the Day- Skirtin' Around Monday

Is anyone else looking forward to the premiere of Gossip Girl tonight? I kind of half-watched the last season because everyone was giving me a headache with their stupidity, but they always get me with the fashion. And let's hope Serena can keep her boobs contained this year. Seriously, does the girl know what a crewneck or turtleneck looks like? :)

With all of the attention that I've been giving leopard and cheetah these days, zebra has been feeling neglected so I dug this skirt out of my closet today. My chambray shirt was the perfect topper to this fabulously comfortable knit skirt. What more could a girl ask for at work. I just thought of one, when they make high heel shoes that feel like fluffy clouds, workday outfits will be wonderfully complete.

What's going on with the one legged pose today? I was giving my Ms. America goodbye wave to the people on the plane in the sky. I like to imagine everyone going somewhere fabulous and tell them to have fun for me too.

Zebra knit skirt- Diane von Furstenburg (secondhand)
