Notes from the Dressing Room- Kohls Equals K for Kute

Before I begin this post, I just want to wish my mother a Happy Mother's Day. Thank you for all of your love and support through the years. You were by my side when I decided to enter the world a lot sooner than expected, fixed my boo-boos as a kid, held on to your sanity during those "leave me alone" teenage years, and continue to be my overprotective rock as an adult. I love you!!!

To all of the other mothers, soon-to-be moms and mother figures out there, I hope your day is special.

Having to make a recent return, I found myself in Kohl's and decided to have a look at what was on the racks. I have to admit that Kohl's isn't one of my frequent shopping places and when I do go, I usually only check out the Vera Wang and Lauren Conrad lines, but I always spy something cute. Here are a few for your reviewing pleasure:

Simply Vera Vera Wang Embellished Dress, on sale $47.60, available here

Vera Wang is my favorite line at Kohl's and a big reason for that is how she doesn't shy away from pattern or color. This dress is a combination of both qualities and gets a nice thumbs up. There is some pleating action going on from the top to around the mid-section, but it's not done in a way that creates an unflattering look. The only issue I had is with imo unnecessary embellishment by the shoulder. It kind of looks tacked as if it was a bit of an after-thought.

Simply Vera Vera Wang Floral Tee, on sale $21.00, available here
LC Lauren Conrad Embellished Skinny Twill Ankle Pants, on sale $33.00, limited sizes here (check store)

Uh oh, to camel toe!

If you're anything like me, you have a ton of plain tees in your wardrobe. One way to mix things up is with some pattern. This floral tee is a great pop to any outfit and it's comfortable at that. Fit is a bit roomy, so you might want to size down. It is also available in other colorways.

With neutrals as one of the hot things of the season, these pants are right on trend. What's even better is that they aren't just tan. This is a mix of tan with a hint of pink (so maybe a mauve). I was under the impression that these pants were like leggings, but these are definitely a skinny pant that fit tts (I sized down in these pics and that definitely wasn't necessary).

LC Lauren Conrad Crochet Tank, on sale $33.00, available here
LC Lauren Conrad Cuffed Linen Shorts, on sale $30.00, available here

I admit crochet normally isn't my thing, but there was something about this tank that interest me. It's simple, but has nice detailing plus it would be one of those items you can just throw on (and channel your inner bohemian girl, which I seem to want these days). I don't remember what size I tried on, but judging from the fit, you might want to size down. My only issue with this top is that it's inherent nature is to be see-through. How do you work around that?

These shorts would be great for simple, easy dressing as well. I thought the side ties were a cute touch. The only things that gave me pause were the baggy fit and the fact that one of the cuffs didn't want to stay up, but the olive color is great. Fit is tts to slightly big.

Do you shop at Kohl's?? Do you think that celebrities/designers sacrifice style and/or quality when they collaborate with discount or mid-level stores?

  1. As you already know, I love Kohl's too. It's a great place to get trendy pieces made with quality. The Simply Vera and LC lines have excellent craftsmanship. I've been pleased with dresses and blouses purchased from Kohl's.

However, I do think some celebrity designers sacrifice quality in a collaboration. SJP's Bitten line didn't last. I think the Olsenboye pieces at JC Penney are cute, but the fabric tends to be flimsy. The Mango line at JC Penney is very well-made though!

  3. I'm not a Kohl's shopper. I really think that the store is soothyling boring. However I see several people that have made Kute purchases from there. So in response to this post I'm going to visit Kohl's again sometime this week. I like the fact that designers are teaming up with affordable stores so that every one can get a lil piece of style (no matter what budget).

  4. @Linda- Oh, I know you love yourself some Kohl's. :)
I totally agree with you about some other lines. I thought the Bitten line wasn't anything special, although I do still have my SaTC t-shirt. I think Mango might be a good line because it was an already established brand.

@this free bird-I can totally see you in that tank!

@Special K- I can totally understand your pov. I feel the same way about Sears. I think if you stay in the areas that are geared toward the younger demographics, you can find something pretty nice (Lauren Conrad, Vera Wang, Apt. 9 and Elle).
